THE RELIC | DRAGON Score EP Now Available!

The beating heart of any movie is its score, and composer Antoni Mairata has composed an absolutely breathtaking score for our dark folklore / adventure movie!

DRAGON is the fifth collaboration between Toni and writer/director J.M. Logan, starting with the highly decorated short film Lunch Ladies in 2017.  After nearly a decade working together, their shorthand is tight, and Toni's flare for the epic is on full display!

Toni comes from a deep background of orchestral composition, having attended prestigious film scoring programs in Madrid, USC and UCLA, and thanks to his exceptional ingenuity and broad spectrum of talent, he was able to stretch our incredibly thin budget the same way everyone else did -- by doing everything himself!

In addition to composing and performing much of the score in his own studio, he also arranged, orchestrated, and did all the music prep for the large strings and choir section.  In conjunction with conductor Joan Martorell, they recorded two sessions at Tom Tom studios with the renowned Budapest Symphony Orchestra and Choir to bring the score to life. Toni also recorded multiple solo instruments at Cas Music in his home island of Mallorca, Spain to infuse the unusual, ancient textures the score required.

In the coming weeks, we will be releasing behind the scenes videos of the recording and playing of the score on our social media, as well as an interview between Toni and J.M. Logan talking about how the DRAGON score evolved, and their long history collaborating.

Toni has given us an unbelievably gigantic, dynamic, sweeping score filled with nuance and texture that would otherwise be firmly out of reach for our small production of not for his incredible talent and dedication.

The EP of the score album is currently available on Spotify, Apple Music, and everywhere else you stream music.  The full album will be released later this year or early 2027.  We'll keep you up to date!

A Spooktacular TEXAS HAUNTERS CONVENTION!

Continuing our summer convention tour raising awareness by bringing DRAGON directly to genre audiences -- we had a blast at Texas Haunters Convention, a Halloween / Haunt and Cosplay convention in Dallas, Texas!

Check out some of these incredible costumes!

Writer/director J.M. Logan along with producer Matt Falletta, FX artist Darrin LeBlanc and Specter performer Chris Greene talked up the movie, did some walkarounds to join the other costumed characters, and sold some new DRAGON merch including some really cool 3D printed Specter statues made by Darrin.

Also for the first time on any market -- Matt's amazingly realistic prop blood and the strangely crave-able maple-flavored mouth blood that we used in the movie!

The mouth blood was a particular favorite as we did tasting samples, and one family bought a bottle literally to use on their pancakes!  

They wanted BLOODY PANCAKES for breakfast!

These are our people!!

Summer Slash is a 1980's themed horror convention in its first year and is run by Blood Over Texas, who also runs the famous Horror For The Holidays convention in November, so it is bound to be a lot of fun!  Please drop by and say hello!

Director's Note

Texas Haunters was really fun, and we continued to receive overwhelming interest in DRAGON -- but the most interesting observation I came away with was from the many dozens of conversations I had with genre fans being absolutely sick of what Hollywood has been grinding out.

After seeing our trailer, many folks thought we were there promoting a new studio movie (a compliment to the polish of our marketing materials!), but when we described our film; a truly independent, hand-made movie by humans for humans -- all of them washed with relief and were giddily excited to find out how they could support not only our film, but also anything else we might be working on in the future.

More than anything it was because we are taking the time to reach out in the most human way possible -- across a table, in person, bringing our movie directly to them.

"It's summer. Why aren't I at a movie theater?"

"Ugh. It's all been such crap lately!"

"I keep hearing everyone asking why no one is going to the movie theater anymore - well, give us some movies we want to watch!"

The divide between the studios and audiences has never been in sharper relief than in 2026 when studios are producing $100+mm bomb after bomb while a host of small independents are taking home the box office -- at least until The Odyssey showed up.

But even with its blockbuster budget (still modest compared to many Marvel and DC movies), The Odyssey was made by a filmmaker with an independent spirit taking a huge risk on a movie nobody asked for -- a passion project he's been dreaming about for decades -- and clearly smashed the mold of what we normally think of as a blockbuster over and over again.  No one told him how to make it. He got to make the movie he wanted to make. And look what happened.

Oppenheimer was the same way.  Dunkirk.  There was no discussion about whether or not to spend $100+mm on a movie that kids will have no interest in when Nolan's at the helm, because everyone knows Nolan makes great movies -- and great movies will always be popular.

They give Nolan a pass to make pretty much anything he wants because he's got a proven track record, but -- he's not the only filmmaker who can do this.

But the process all falls apart when great filmmakers are pulled into a broken, self-interested system where Harvard Business School graduates tell them how to make movies, and then wonder why they fail.

If studios would begin focusing on making great movies instead of scheming to make a billion dollars on every worn out sequel by heartlessly assembling a grab-bag of impersonal factors that happened to work on a previous movie and thinking they can apply to any movie -- we'd be in a much better place.

Instead, they are taking the wrong lesson.  Again.  And now they want to buy all the YouTube stars because that's what they think audiences want.

They are missing the point.

But you aren't.

Conventional distribution has been telling us audiences don't want to see a movie without a big budget and A-list stars -- but you are decisively proving them wrong!

So -- THANK YOU for continuing to support DRAGON, and independent films!  Your enthusiasm is what keeps us going!!

We made this movie for you, and we can't wait to show it to you!
